MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- The Kenjutsu Master stood in the area, inspecting the sword in her hands. Shirong's sword. It was heavier than her own swords, probably because it was steel, but with a bit of practice, Mei knew that she could wield it adeptly. Probably better than the Guardian himself. But that was okay. It was his sword and Mei knew that Shirong was with his sword. She swung it a couple of times, getting a feel for the weight and aerodynamic qualities. Not a bad sword at all. If someone were to walk in on her, they would see a trained swordswoman as if she'd been using Shirong's blade her entire life.
A thought then hit her. How can I sleep like this...? No... The better question is how to stay awake. I can't afford to sleep now, although... Taking cautionary steps may be a good idea. Mei thought for a bit before wandering around, eventually coming to the nurse's office. Surely she could find something in there. Mei walked in and scanned the shelves. Medical tape? Tape was that sticky paper right? Oh, and there were bandages too. That could help.
Mei unrolled some bandages before looking at her predicament. How could she wrap the bandages around her own hand? Ah, of course! Her mouth! Mei grasped the bandages between her teeth and using her other hand, wrapped them tightly around her left hand. The one holding the sword. Then she took the tape and, in a similar process, secured the bandages. Well, she thought. Her entire left hand was immobile now. Her hand was the sword now. She couldn't move her fingers no matter how hard she tried.
She had always used a sword as if it were a part of her, but she tried a couple of practice swings. Her strength behind her swings improved, she realized, with the added support. A fair trade, she supposed. After a bit, she grew weary of the practice and sat down on a chair. Hopefully no one would question her hand too much.

[googlefont="VT323"] Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. Katsu was hoping there was something that could help him, now that his body was starting to shut down, his medicine no more use to him. The effects were wearing off and Katsu was in a small state of panic, though it wasn't to the level he was outwardly showing. He just had trouble walking and things like that. He just sat down most of the time and stayed in his room, even if it were just yesterday that these things were put on them. It felt like forever since then, as a lot of stuff seemed to happen, like with Tomoe and him last night, or this morning depending on one's point of view as it happened after curfew. However, given the situation, Katsu knew he had to prepare himself for the worst.
Therefore, he headed to the nurse's office in the newly opened portion of the factory, a floor down from their quarters. Using the elevator as stairs were not a good thing to test right now when his body was failing him like it was, Katsu found his way to the nurse's office, the thought plaguing him that perhaps this would go on far enough that he would need help to even move around. That's what the doctor's told him before he joined the experimental drug testing at Hope's Peak when he was about thirteen, and… it stopped the diseases progression almost completely (more like made a day's progression about half a year to take place, so it progressed just really slow), but he hadn't been off his medication since then and it was scaring him.
He had to remain calm, and that's what he told himself as he stepped out of the elevator and walked towards the nurse's office. There was someone there. Great. He didn't want anyone to find out his weakness. Clenching his fist weakly, Katsu walked in and started to look around. Mei. It was Mei. Ah, yes, someone he wanted to talk to anyways. Then again, he hated talking. He just had to get something off his chest.
"I'm sorry for giving you that order… earlier with Abraham."

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- Mei looked up as she heard footsteps approaching. Strange footsteps. Sporadic, almost out-of-control sounding. She turned to see someone whom she definitely didn't expect to see. Katsu Kuno. But, as far as Mei was aware, Katsu barely left his room, so why was he here in the Nurse's Office? Did it have something to do with the way he had been acting as of late? Mei didn't really take an interest in it, but she had noticed that Katsu's movement's had changed since the trial. He looked... weaker. More frail. If this kept up, Katsu would definitely be an easy target for murder, Mei realized, her heart sinking. She didn't want another killing, that was for sure, but showing weakness at a time like this... Mei wouldn't voice her opinions on Katsu's sudden change in demeanor. There was simply no need and would only serve to anger Katsu or something like that, right? Besides, she had no idea what the reason was. Why talk about something she didn't understand? Then, the Hacker spoke, and his words were... interesting.
"I'm sorry for giving you that order… earlier with Abraham."
"That is fine, Kuno. I live to serve. Besides, knowing Oppenheimer, I'm sure he understands. We'll hold no hard feelings towards each other." She thought back to that feeling of utter obedience as Katsu had told her to kill Oppenheimer if someone touched the body, and shut her eyes as she recalled the thoughts racing around in her head. This was precisely why Mei stayed out of situations with multiple people in them. Too many orders, too much to do. Why did Oppenheimer have to be so persistent back there? Mei didn't know the answer to that. But she understood his devotion. Two purposes had clashed, hers had won out and Oppenheimer had paid the price. But now, by some trick of fate, she had suffered the same fate as her victim, she realized, looking down at her sword hand.
A hand for a hand. And so long as there wasn't a killing, her hand would remain binded. These Monokuma things, they really wanted death, didn't they? To go as far as to restrict people in what they could or could not do... She glanced at her black and white bracelet and, with her wrist, tapped it, allowing those accursed words to pop up again. The timing was horrendous. She should've dropped the sword off at her bed before coming downstairs in hindsight, but... Oh, well. Mei wouldn't allow it to become too much of a hassle. That would just end up hurting her in the end. Besides, she didn't regret grabbing the sword. Better it be in her hands than those Monokumas. They'd probably throw it out the window or something and then Shirong would be gone forever. She glanced up at Katsu, hoping that she wouldn't scare him off or something with a sword taped to her hand. Truly, she knew people were probably already scared of her. A woman trained in Kenjutsu in a killing game? But now, she had a sword for a hand. Even so, it was up to her to show that she wasn't anymore dangerous than before. She knew she could and she would. She could start by making conversation with Katsu. "So, Kuno, what brings you to the Nurse's Office?"

[googlefont="VT323"] Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. He wasn't worried about Abraham disliking her for doing it, though it was comforting that she felt they weren't in any trouble between each other. After all, it was his fault. While he didn't know Mei very well, he figured from the way she had been acting by guarding the body due to an order, it wouldn't hurt to try to use her as a weapon to prevent Oppenheimer from killing everyone with his stupid act. While Katsu didn't know the lengths Mei would go to, and while he should be scared of her with that sword for a hand, Katsu found himself oddly calm around her, not worried that she would attack him. Or perhaps he was at peace at someone attacking him. For if they attacked him, Tomoe wouldn't be attacked… probably, unless they were bloodthirsty and wanted to kill two people, but then again, who would hurt someone as sweet and beautiful as Tomoe? Maybe if they were jealous of her amazingness. And then he needed to be alive to stop them. Yes. That was why he had to live.
"It's Katsu. Do not call me Kuno." Katsu hated his last name. It meant that he was part of the family who had outcast him, who had disowned him, who had cast him out to fend off the world on his own, while they took dirty money and forced it upon him in several instances, such as his usual bodyguards. They wouldn't let him fire them, or use other money, or anything like that. He tried to bring them down many times, believing their money to be dirty and they should face justice as many of his victims had faced, scrutiny in the public eye and in the court. Katsu's leaked documents he got from hacking sent many of the top officials who were corrupt to jail. Kuno was a reminder of the family that the public honored and believed to be great, when he knew the truth and just hadn't yet been able to prove it.
"Nothing." Katsu looked to Mei and then sat down on one of the surgery tables so he didn't have to stand any longer. "Exploration, really. Nothing specific." Liar.

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- Thankfully, Katsu didn't turn and run or anything silly like that. Mei blinked though, at the hackers request, and then frowned, "I... I am not good with given names... I find them... troublesome. Only my family... Or what's left of them... are whom I would call by their given name." Yet, Mei could sense the pain in Katsu's voice and reflected on his face at the call of 'Kuno'. Perhaps there were bad memories attached to it. Mei inwardly shrugged. She didn't mind if people called her 'Mei', 'Miss Mei', 'Meiyo', even, what was it? 'Titsword Blady'? Really, the only name that irked her even in the slightest was 'Mei Mei' and only if because of her grandfather. Even so, she could tolerate it, so she couldn't really grasp Katsu's aversion to his surname. "I suppose this causes a conflict. I will not call you 'Katsu' and yet, you will not allow me to call you 'Kuno'. So, for the time being, I suppose I won't call you anything."
Katsu then sat down on the surgery table. Exploring? How very unlike him. Since they'd arrived, Mei hadn't seen Katsu explore once. And then... If he was truly "exploring", why was he sitting on the table? Yet, Mei didn't want to disrespect Katsu. Clearly, if he was lying, he had a reason for it. "Why the Nurse's Office? Were you hoping to find something here? Honestly, I don't know what any of this stuff does." Mei walks to one of the counters, "Sertraline? Acetaminophen? There's even a book here. Surgery 101..." The book had a picture of the table that Katsu was sitting on. Ohhhh, was this what Katsu wanted? A surgery?
Mei nodded slowly, "Alright then. I will help you with what you need. Is this it?" She holds up the book, "Because I am well versed in cutting things."

[googlefont="VT323"] Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. Honestly Katsu didn't care that she was uncomfortable calling him Katsu, as long as she didn't call him Kuno. She could call him fuck-face or dude over there who looks like an idiot, or whatever, as long as she didn’t use the name that made him disappointed and made him lose pride in himself. While he knew who he was, and who his parents were, the dirty money they used to treat him and 'guard' him was always on his mind and he didn't need reminding. It was almost like he didn't want others to call him a name that was shameful to him even though others didn't know or they thought it was a famous name of war heroes. It was odd, but it was how he felt. He kept in mind the name he carried and tried to prove to the world he wasn't like his family, at least the bad family in his head. His siblings weren't bad, but his parents were terrible and had fooled the world into loving them.
So, in response Katsu simply nodded at her response to his request, even though hearing his last name caused his mind to run around in circles in hate and self-pity.
"They do stuff," Katsu explained, not really wanting to have to go into detail because he hated talking. "However… I do not need surgery. You may be well-versed in cutting things, but surgery is not about randomly cutting about. I need not anything to do with that right now. I merely wanted to sit somewhere where I did not have to look up at her and hurt my neck." After all, the surgery tables were fairly high since people needed to cut into a person laying down without hurting their back and still getting a close enough view to do the work needed.
"You are versed in killing things. Surgery is a life-giving process about knowing the body and everything in it. Specific procedures where you can cut into the brain take a part our and then sew it back up, without causing any sort of harm to the one you cut into. It's a healing practice that very few can actually achieve." Fuck. He talked way too much and it made him tired. He laid back and put his hands behind his head and looked up. "I just haven't been here yet. I slept much of yesterday… and talked to friends. Therefore, I needed to look in all of the new places. This just was one of them I have yet to visit." What was wrong with him? Perhaps Tomoe had rubbed off on him. He always talked more with her than with others.

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- Mei listened to Katsu as he spoke. It was the most she'd heard him speak in the short time she knew him and something about that struck her as odd. Speaking of which, he often talked to that blonde girl, right? Tomoe Sunada? Where was she? Why wasn't she with him? Well, when Mei thought about it... She hadn't seen Katsu with Tomoe at all in the past day. In fact, when the two seemed to be in the same room, they didn't even look at each other. Very odd, for two who seemed so close to suddenly avoid each other. Yet, Mei simply observed things like this. If it became relevant, then she would bring it up, but for know, she would stay silent on the matter. After all, that's what Katsu would probably want.
"It's a healing practice that very few can actually achieve."
At this, Mei blinked and looked back at the book she was carrying before opening it and scanning a page. She bit her lip as she realized she didn't understand what many of the words meant. Yet her curiosity took her over and she looked at the Hacker laying on the bed. "Um, what is 'anesthesia'? And 'pathological'... 'suturing'..." This book was way beyond her and, frankly, from the words she read, boring. Yet, now she had a burning desire to know what those words meant. She had a bit of knowledge in treating wounds, after all, she had to treat her own, but from what Katsu said, surgery seemed beyond her.
The Kenjutsu Master lowered the book to look at Katsu, a strange expression in her red gaze. Something between 'Please tell me', 'I'm gonna kill you if you don't tell me', and something awkwardly adorable. With a sword taped to her hand, perhaps she looked more threatening than she meant. But then, Mei didn't want Katsu to learn her passion for reading either, so she quickly set the book down behind her before returning her gaze to him. Da Ji had been pretty close to finding out her secret and she didn't need anyone else to get that close. There were a few other books on medical stuff there, too, and Mei made a mental note to read those later, when she was actually alone. Or maybe she could bring someone who wouldn't question it, like Da Ji or Joo-Eun. Either would be fine, Mei thought. Not Katsu though. He was too... too... Mei didn't know the word, but it was something that deterred her from asking him too many questions.

[googlefont="VT323"] Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. It wasn't that he was an unfit person, though he wasn't strong like Mei, but he could run if his body was fully functional and he was back on his medication, or well, never stopping taking his medication was the better way to describe it. However, simply standing, talking, breathing, every action he took cost more energy than it had before because his body was started to disobey as his brain began to slowly die and lose control over his body. His nerves weren't responding correctly and thus to force the nerves to do what he wanted cost at least double the energy right now. If things went on for too long, he would need a wheelchair and he would be a burden on everyone here… and Tomoe would find out about how terrible of a person he was and probably reject him, or at least he would think she would reject him because he would be so much work in the future, such a burden increasing her stress more than he ever wanted to hurt her. Of course, keeping things from her might hurt her more in the end, but he didn't want to waste the time he had with a body that would do things with her worrying over him all the time.
Katsu shrugged at Mei's questions. "Dunno." It wasn't like he was a surgeon himself. While he knew what most of the words meant, he really didn't feel like talking more than he had to after that outburst that was almost like a speech. He didn't like talking to people because he hated how he phrased things and he was deathly afraid of making someone mad or making an enemy of a sort. He didn't want people to not like him. He wanted to make every smile, especially Tomoe, but last night he had made her cry and he would regret that for the rest of his life, no matter how short it was going to be because of this game. No, he would make it up to her later. He preferred her safe so she could smile more and more later than in danger with a small amount of smiles left.
Katsu slid off the surgery table and his foot didn't land right, hitting the side of his foot and stumbling, catching himself, luckily. "Why are you here?" He tilted his head in curiosity as he watched the kenjutsu master, not even realizing there was any sort of 'I'll kill you' in her expression before when she asked him about those words.

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- Mei frowned at the Hacker's unwillingness to speak. It seemed like a lot of things were going through his head as he sat there and Mei had trained herself to just... let things go when answers didn't come. She could always ask someone else later. Perhaps Tomoe, as a veterinarian, which Mei had learned was some kind of animal doctor, would know what they meant. She could also maybe ask Joo-Eun if time allowed and the Poet was willing. Either way, there was no shortage of those that Mei could ask and her willingness to learn wouldn't be halted by Katsu's apparent lack of knowledge. She could've sworn him to at least know what some of those meant, but... Oh well.
Mei proceeded to shrug and then looked back at her sword hand. Perhaps she should find a sheath for it. That would certainly make her less threatening if her hand was stuck in a sheath rather than having Shirong's sword waving around all willy nilly like, right? She could consult someone about that later. Find materials somewhere that could be used to build a sheath. She was no stranger to crafting things, though she wouldn't go as far as to call herself a blacksmith. Her grandfather had taught her the basics of forging a sword and also making a sheath, so given the materials, she could make one for Shirong's sword. Thinking back on it, she should've just taken the sheath too and not just his blade. Good job, once again, Mei. Oh well.
"Why are you here?"
Why would Katsu care...? That confused Mei. The Hacker always seemed so distant. But whatever, she wasn't hiding anything. "I was finding a way to keep Shirong's sword in my hand as long as I needed. Something drew me here and I found bandages and this... tape stuff. As you can see, this sword isn't leaving my hand anytime soon." The Kenjutsu Master had noticed Katsu's awkward landing and would've gone to help him if, a) she didn't have a sword as a hand and b) it wasn't prickly, antisocial Katsu. Her concern probably showed very faintly on her face though, as even she couldn't help but feel concern for the weaker looking Katsu. Perhaps there was something she could do for him indirectly... No, that would be overstepping her boundaries. She barely knew this Katsu Kuno, shouldn't care for him, and didn't even know what to call him. Perhaps... She had an idea in her head, though she wasn't sure how Katsu would react. That was the thing about people who didn't socialize. You never know what will offend them or what they're really like. With Mei, one would quickly find that her unwillingness to talk was just the byproduct of her social anxiety and that if she could work through it, she was more than willing to talk to people... To be friendly. She was just an awkward person who happened to be raised with a sword.

[googlefont="VT323"] Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. Katsu wasn't really in the mood to talk, and honestly he never really was in the mood to talk. There was just some instances that made him get off his lazy ass and talk and communicate with others, either because he had fun with talking which was rare or he felt it was just that important to say something because otherwise everyone would be in danger like in the trial they had. If he didn't say what was on his mind he could've lost his chance seeing as he couldn't trust anyone else to make the same observations that he did. But this conversation wasn't really that all important to him, nor did he find enjoyment in enlightening someone who seemed to know pretty much nothing about the world. Though, he did feel bad for ordering her to do something that ended up making Abraham lose his hand. However, they had already discussed that, though he wasn't happy with the whole discussion and how she took everything so lightly it seemed. Katsu was still feeling highly guilty and the regret was seeping farther and farther into his psyche he wasn't sure how to recover from such trauma as causing someone so much pain.
So. That was her code. She couldn't let go of that sword. He didn't know what boundaries exactly there were, but it seemed blatantly clear that she could not let that sword go else she wouldn't tape it onto her hand. It wasn't like he was going to tell her his, and his wasn't as blatant as hers, at least for now when he could still function mostly normally, though he knew that as time went on, and very soon, he would lose the little control he had, which he could feel slowly waning away from him.
"Okay." Katsu walked over to one of the cabinets and looked inside. He wondered if Abe had been here yet, as his hand probably needed better care than the quick treatment they were forced to put on him. After all, losing a limb was not something to take lightly. "Why do you care about talking to me?" He was curious. Why did anyone want to talk to him? He didn't like talking to others in most circumstances. But he was a kind person when he did talk, at least in general, though sometimes things came out the wrong way. He just wanted to know why anyone other than Tomoe actually seemed to talk to him, and some people seemed to care, even if just a little bit, or they were just pretending. He didn't understand why anyone could care about him especially since he didn't really talk that much to the others.

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- When one is faced with a person who is generally unwilling to talk, how does the other approach it? Usually, they just strike up conversation, right? Maybe talk about some shared interests. But Mei looked at her sword hand and sighed inwardly. Swords and computers didn't mix. Mei knew nothing about Katsu's craft and, well, she didn't know much else about him. When it came down to it, most of the people here were complete mysteries. It was difficult to read people, as Mei found, and even without her social anxiety, she found it harder still to hold a conversation. Katsu certainly wasn't the easiest person to communicate with either. So really, why had she stayed to talk to the Hacker instead of just going about her business and then leaving? Was there something about Katsu or was it just a hidden desire to get to know people? To break out of the solitude she had been trapped in her whole life? No, Mei didn't mind being alone. She was used to that. Instead...
"Why do you care about talking to me?"
Mei watched as Katsu looked into the cabinets, and she pondered, still, that question. They had nothing in common except for being loners. And that didn't exactly make good conversation material. And, looking at Katsu, he didn't seem like to type to run around with swords. And she had certainly never touched a computer before aside from the little Electro-ID things that they had been given. And, yet, she still didn't know how to work it properly, mostly just smashing the screen until something happened. That made her wonder, had Katsu, the Hacker, done anything to his Electro-ID or would that count as a strike against the rules and get him killed? Probably the latter, knowing the Monokuma. When one wanted to annihilate as many people as they could, they'd take any opportunity possible. That was the point of the Kill Commands. If someone violated it, they'd die. Simple as that. It seemed like a decent enough way to kill people, though it did make them wary of each other. Mei didn't know if or when someone would try to force her to violate her Kill Command, but she knew that if that did happen, she would have to defend herself with, well, the sword of the Guardian. Funny how, even though he was dead, Shirong could still protect her.
Mei turned back to Katsu, coming up with an answer in her head, "Because I'd like to know the people that I have to spend time with. I am a person who is not well versed in the arts of speaking and... well..." She paused for a moment to get her thoughts collected again, "It is... difficult to find you in a place to talk with you. But, I'd like to get to know you anyway..." She was aware of how awkward she probably sounded, but then, speaking never came easy to her. Not even with a sword in hand.

[googlefont="VT323"] Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. Katsu stared at Mei wondering why she would want to get to know him. He was a good person he liked to believe as he tried hard to be one, but in a situation like this, why would they want to get to know someone they probably will end up losing? Someone who will either kill or be killed? Perhaps it was the hope or the need to cling to others, while he had always pushed people away when he was in situations like this, though nothing quite like this he'd been involved with. His mind wandered to Kira and wondered how she was doing, causing great reserves of bottled up sadness and regret to bubble up and start plaguing his mind. He looked away from Mei for a moment and closed his eyes for a moment, the image of his heartbroken sister sitting in his mind, crying and wondering why he said the things he said. Regret. Of course, he felt it. But he also felt like he did the right thing. That suffering was nowhere near having to go through the suffering of watching someone you loved die. He didn't want his sister to cry over his shitty body giving out on him.
"Knowing me will only cause you pain." Katsu looked back up at her and stared her in the eye. "I am a poison to all those around me. I used to try to make people like me. I used to have friends. I used to have a family I cared about and whom cared about me. I found out the truth about my family and I pushed them away. I found out the truth about me and I am protecting those around me from myself. This is a warning, Mei Meiyo, knowing me will only cause you pain for when I end up dying in this game. Spend your time with someone else. I am merely a waste of everyone's time, I am a poison. I deserve to be alone. It is the fate that I was given when I was born. I want to be your friend, but I cannot. I do not want to cause you pain."
Katsu walked over to the door and didn't look back towards Mei. He just opened the door and stared out of the door. "Goodbye." And with that he walked out.

MEI MEIYO -KENJUTSU MASTER- Something was wrong with the Hacker. Something beyond what Mei knew about him. There was an oddly familiar feeling coming off of Katsu and Mei frowned. It was something she felt a lot... As she stood there, watching Katsu, her mind wandered as well to a time when her family was all happy and well. Her mother's smiling, happy face and her father's stern, but kind words... Keizou and how he was always focused on the task at hand and, of course, him. Takeo. Mei could never forget Takeo and that face just before she left him... It was burnt into her mind forever. That last, regretful smile on her little brother's face as the fox caught up with him... More than ever, Mei wanted to grasp the wakizashi in her hands and tightly curl up with it, but she could not. Not now with her accursed Kill Command.
For what it was worth, Mei knew that Katsu was reminiscing and, as such, she didn't say a word. It seemed like the proper thing to do, to give the Hacker his space, and instead, Mei reflected on something else, to chase those bad memories away.
All right, Mei. You've got to hold the sword tighter and swing it not like a tool, but like it's a part of you. You are the sword. N-No, Takeo... That's not how you- Takeo! You're gonna hurt someone! What are you- Ugh... Give me a second, Mei. I need to deal with Takeo.
The day her older brother had disappeared was also burnt into her mind, but Mei could chase that away with the hope that Keizou was still alive and well. He had seemed so distant the day before and Mei wondered if she could've possibly stopped him from leaving. Yet, there was no time for regret now. Not in this killing game.
"This is a warning, Mei Meiyo, knowing me will only cause you pain for when I end up dying in this game. Spend your time with someone else. I am merely a waste of everyone's time"
And Mei merely watched as the Hacker left. You are still a mystery to me, Kuno, and I'm sure you always will be. But...
"I am a poison."
"I'm not familiar with the properties of poison."
