The today I chose is ordinary,
and it's about to crumble. With the white blanket pulled up to cover her shoulders, Akimi slept on her side with her back to the entrance.
Her nightstand was the last thing she saw before falling asleep, and since her ID was the only one that could open it, she decided that to be the best place to keep her earpiece safe. That, and her notebook and pen.
She didn't want to experience living here without being able to hear, even if the Monokuma Brothers might pity her enough to give her a replacement. She wanted to limit her contact with them as much as she could.
They were disgusting.
But anyways, this was her first time sleeping in the same room as so many others. There were many problems that might arrive from such an arrangement, like being kept awake by people's snoring and tossing and turning, but her condition afforded her solace. With her eyes shut, lights closed and blanket pulled up, she could almost delude herself into believing that she wasn't where she was. Because while the mattress and pillow felt a little alien under her skin, it was decent enough. And while she normally slept in her nightgown, just clothes weren't going to make or break the illusion of serenity.
Even when the others woke and stirred, Akimi usually stayed cooped up under her blanket for longer than most. Some days she spent more than half of it just sleeping and napping, and today was no exception.
Because other than talking to the others (which she's done a little of), there wasn't really much at all to do here. No pleasant sights to see, no flowers to arrange. There wasn't a piano to play, nor decent entertainment to distract her mind.
So really, sleep was the next (and only) best thing.

There was a real problem with this factory. A problem as serious and concerning than anything the rest of the kids here could have possibly imagined. Fuck any thoughts about murders or the fact some people may or may not already be planning on killing each other for the sake of…well to be honest Tomoe didn’t know what. She had been far too busy booping bear noses to pay attention to their speech on why people should be mean or whatever but based on the reactions she’s heard that other people had she can only assume it was bad, but that just completely and totally paled in comparison to the real danger that plagued this factory life.
That problem was obvious: slugabeds.
Jeez, people just wanted to be lazy around here and it made no sense to Tomoe. There were so many things you could do in a day, and did they even know how many activities they were cutting out of their day by sleeping in? Hell, not only that, did nobody here even know the importance of a proper sleeping pattern has on the human body? Okay sure, Tomoe was first and foremost an animal doctor but if you wanted to think about it in a biological sense, people were animals, right?
…Long story short, Tomoe had decided that it was her sworn duty to wake up these lazybones, as many as she could find in the best most effective way possible. The only problem was one particular sleepy head here this morning that seemed determined to not get up no matter what Tomoe tried. She had tried gently shaking the other girl and had gotten no response. She had tried the cat method which was just kind of leaning down and getting into their personal space, but that didn’t work either. And now, having spent a good few minutes sitting bedside pouting, Tomoe was now determined to bring out the heavy artillery.
Retrieving the heavy artillery from her own bedside, Tomoe wandered back over to the girls bed and ever so gently to not be rude, pressed the nose of her loyal stuffed rabbit to where she assumed the head of the other girl was hidden under the blanked and aimed for what she really hoped was her nose and not something else.
“Boop.”
Nobody could resist the siren morning call of the Ishiharu, the sooner people learned this the better.

The today I chose is ordinary,
and it's about to crumble. Akimi isn't someone who normally hides inside her blanket. Firstly, because it has the tendency to grow stuffy and hot, and secondly, because she didn't usually have a reason to. Today though, today was different.
Her sleep was interrupted, initially, by the natural habit of simply waking up. Sleepy and drowsy, her head barely lifted an inch above her pillow before she gave up and let it fall down once more. Didn't take too long to fall asleep again after that.
What followed though was yet another interruption. This time, she felt hands pushing against her body, gently shaking her. She tried her best to fake sleep, waiting for whoever it was to leave her alone (which honestly took longer than she thought it would have, but eventually, it worked.)
While she was curious to see who or what was shaking her, in that half-asleep state, her immediate priorities weren't exactly what you might call logical or practical. But she was just so, so tired, so much so that she fell asleep in the short time it took Tomoe to switch from shaking to standing extremely close to the sleeping girl's face.
Sadly, it didn't last. Soon afterwards, Akimi felt a strand of loose hair brush against the tip of her nose. This caused her to itch, thus caused her to be dragged away from sleep for like, the third time that morning.
She wearily opened her eyes to see the back of... someone walking away. And while Akimi couldn't exactly remember their name right that moment, she was still thankful (and relieved) to see them walk away and leave her in peace.
Turning over to sleep on her other side, the Ikebana Artist pulled the blanket up over her entire body in an attempt to loose herself in the darkness and fall to slumber once more. Just for a few more hours.
“Boop.”
..Huh? Just what... Something was hitting the back of her head.
Exasperated, Akimi emerged from under her blanket and wearily sat up. Pushing away a few strands of loose hair, she glanced over to where the boop came from with furrowed brows. A short, white-haired girl came into view, a sight that brought her no closer to figuring out why she was being kept away from blissful sleep.
More than a tad annoyed, Akimi half glared, half shot the girl (who was... Tomoe, she thinks,) a questioning look that asked 'What in the world are you doing?'

Oh good, she was awake. Operation "wake all the sleepies up so we can all start the day" was a major success. Now Akimi could join all the rest of them in doing fun things to the full extent of her potential, wasn’t this just wonderful? Well Tomoe certainly thought so and that is why even though Akimi was visibly upset with being woken up by a cute white haired girl, Tomoe just smiled wide at the older girl, the offending rabbit that had done the actual awakening clutched tightly against her chest.
“Good morning sleepyhead. It’s time to join the world and start a beautiful day.”
Jeez, Tomoe give the cheer and good will a rest for two minutes, will you? Some people thought it was okay to sleep in every so often, it wasn’t that big of a deal to most people. And yet the young girl took a seat on a vacant bed next to Akimi’s and propped her head in her hands, meeting Akimi’s annoyed glare with nothing but smiles as she waited for the other girl to just give in and get up like the rest of them. It was kind of rude to keep people waiting Akimi.
“All of the other slugabeds are awake as far as Tomoe knows. Tomoe came to get you, Kimi.” The veterinarian nodded her head, agreeing with herself as if she really needed the support of someone to agree with her explanation, absent mindedly moving Ishiharu’s head up and down in synchronized motion with hers to double the sentiment and then thrust the bunny out towards the face of the other girl without any real reason or explanation as to why she was doing so. “But you didn't want to get up for Tomoe, So Ishiharu decided to come try and get you up.”
Because that made perfect sense, after all.

The today I chose is ordinary,
and it's about to crumble. Only a single question came to mind as she watched Tomoe verbally prance around in a field full of daisies.
'How is this girl so cheerful?'
Did the white-haired girl not realize that their lives were in danger? Were her childish antics (looking at you, rabbit doll) not just an act, but in fact is representative of the girl's level of mental maturity?
If that were the case, and even if it weren't... wasn't this just two equally saddening possibilities? In one hand, here lies an innocent girl who was thrown into a hellish environment that she couldn't even comprehend. In the other, the girl did understand, but sought solace in feigning innocence.
For the girl, Akimi's heart sank just a little bit more. Holding up a finger to shush her, she sat herself closer to her nightstand and opened it up, fitting into her ear the earpiece that was inside.
“All of the other slugabeds are awake as far as Tomoe knows," she heard her say. "Tomoe came to get you, Kimi," the girl continued.
Kimi... That's a pretty cute nickname, all things considered. It definitely says something about this girl that the two of them had barely talked prior to this, and yet she's alreaedy given her a nickname.
Suddenly, after bobbing its head cutely up and down, the aforementioned bunny doll was thrusted to her. Unsure of exactly how to react, (she was never really good with kids), Akimi extended her hands to gently take hold of Ishiharu, bringint it in and petting it on its little fluffy head.
A small smile crept across her lips. If this really was an act, that would mean that Tomoe's trying to cheer her up. And that's something that deserves the highet amount of cherishing.
'You really don't deserve to be in here,' thought Akimi as she reached over (with Ishiharu on her lap) to grab hold of her notebook and pen. She wrote this following message down before passing the notebook to Tomoe, offering her the pen too just in case the girl wanted to write back.
She hoped that the girl wanted to write back. One of Akimi's guilty pleasures were rereadinng the conversations she's had in the past, something that couldn't be done without feeling incomplete when only one side was conversing through written words.
"Good morning," the message wrote. "Ishiharu is quite a cute doll. Where did you get him from?
Furthermore, apologies for my earlier behavior. I have come to appreciate your kind gesture, and am very delighted to have you care enough to wake up my stubborn self. You're very kind, Tomoe."

“Ah” As the other girl took the doll away from her there’s a brief moment of panic that washes over her. Ishiharu had been with her for years, through the darkest times when things were really bad and she had nobody and she just wanted him to be okay, don’t hurt him. Luckily for Tomoe all Akimi does is pat her rabbit on its head and she can take a sigh of relief as Akimi starts to write something down and offered Tomoe a pen so she could write back, a pen that is taken with a bright smile, and quickly scrawls back a response. Not the neatest handwriting in the world, but it should be readable. Good thing nobody graded penmanship these days, right? “Tomoe has had Ishiharu for yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaarrrrrrrs and years, ever since she was small. He’s her most trusted friend that’s not Kachan.”
Tomoe nodded as if it gave her statement added validly and touches Ishiharu on the top of his head to reassure the bunny that what she said was true and she casually glances around the room to see if anyone else was around needing to be woken up by the generous little veterinarian as Akimi wrote a new message on the paper they were communicating on.
"You're very kind, Tomoe."
Kind, her? She wasn’t doing anything super nice or out of the ordinary she thought and so she simply shook her head at the words because they just didn’t make sense to her. Wouldn’t anybody do this who was gonna oversleep and miss all the quality friendship bonding time? Nobody really wants to be by themselves or unfriendly or lonely or whatever else they might say and the young girl began writing a new message in response to the other girl.
“Tomoe isn’t doing anything unusual. She just thinks you’d want to be up and have as much fun with the new friends we all met here as possible. That’s what Tomoe’s doing.”

The today I chose is ordinary,
and it's about to crumble. Akimi smiled at the girl's overuse of the letter 'e' in the word year. She really was just like a little kid, wasn't she?
Tomoe's last few sentences though... She "wasn't doing anything unusual" and just wanted to "have fun with the new friends"?
It was at this point where Akimi's heart fell. This white-haired girl wasn't adorable for being a kid - she was pitiful because of it. And again, the thought that she shouldn't be here entered Akimi's mind, though this time it wasn't so easy to brush off.
Gently, she passed Ishiharu back to Tomoe. The once-cute and fluffy doll now served only to make her feel even more empty. There wasn't exactly a reason that Akimi was able to pinpoint, but whatever it may be, it was no longer as enjoyable to hold this doll in her hands as it was just a few minutes ago.
"Who's this Kachan?" Akimi asked, writing it out of course. "And I appreciate the gesture, but... it's not easy to make friends under such dire circumstances. I'm sure you understand, right Tomoe?"

"And I appreciate the gesture, but... it's not easy to make friends under such dire circumstances. I'm sure you understand, right Tomoe?"
The normal person under these circumstances would have no problem whatsoever understanding what Akimi was saying (well, writing) right now. They were in a horrible situation. They had woken up far away from home, most of them had no idea who the person next to them were, and they had been told randomly by two bears that they were now going to be forced to kill each other, you wouldn’t think that there could be somebody out there who could blindly try and make friends with the people there. Who could be that dumb?
This girl., that’s who. As soon as Akimi stopped speaking, Tomoe seems to think her words over for no more or less than six seconds before shaking her head to a degree where her long white hair could have been used as a weapon to slap someone in the face, and tucking Ishiharu under her arm protectively so he wouldn’t be lost, moved to grab Akimi by the wrist so Tomoe could introduce the older girl to everyone else. She knew exactly what the problem was here.
“You’re shy, Tomoe understands. But isn’t it a lot better to get to know the people around you in situations like this? Friends won’t hurt friends, so let’s all be friends already.”
Each word is punctuated with an impatient tug on the other girls’ wrist as Tomoe tries to drag her along like a child leading their mother. Which is an odd visual when you consider Tomoe was the larger girl of the two. Huh.

The today I chose is ordinary,
and it's about to crumble. A bemused smile spread across Akimi's lips as she watched Tomoe violently shake her head. This girl... she was pretty special, wasn't she? And not in the bad way either.
Really, if there was anyone here that Akimi would want to see survive this game...
And now here she was calling her shy. While it's true that she is shy, that's besides the point. After all, there are other things to take into conside-
Wait, what? No, don't do that.
Akimi initially tried to resist the girl's tugs on her wrist, but seeing Tomoe try this hard kinda made her want to give in. Kinda like seeing a small puppy try and drag a blanket around so you end up helping it.
And so, Akimi relented to the girl's wishes and stood up. She grabbed her hairband from the drawer, tying up a ponytail before following Tomoe out the room, wondering just what this day had in store for the two of them.
In the very least, this would give a chance for her to get to know the girl better. So there's that, at least.
